How Do You Avoid Crashing Your Remote Control Airplane?

.

Crashes are an inevitable part of flying a remote control airplane. Every experienced pilot has crashed at least once. Crashes can occur mid-air when colliding with another plane or object or can occur from imbalance or improper landing. The reasons for crashes vary, but they can often be prevented by exercising common sense during flight.

.

The first thing to remember when flying a remote control airplane is to turn gently. The majority of crashes are caused by turning too suddenly or overcorrecting a turn gone wrong. Do not overturn and keep your plane moving slow and steady. By doing this, you will avoid recovering pieces of plane on the ground.

.

In most cases, there should not be any reason anything drastically will go wrong with sensible flying. If you do find trouble, it is incredible remember not to panic! Panicking will elevate the situation making it worse than it is. Instead, keep your cool, take a breath, and act efficiently.

.

If you feel your plane is going out of control, the first thing you need to do is cut the motor. This will instantly decrease the speed of your plane and lessen the damage that is likely to occur if it does in fact make contact with anything. If you are diving, use the up elevate (assuming the plane is not inverted). This is going to take the plane out of the dive and allow you recovery time. Once the plane reaches a normal altitude and recovers, you can increase the power and return the plane to a regular, steady flight. Anytime you cut the motor you are given an extra few seconds to regroup, assess the problem, and return the plane to a proper path of flight.

.

Choosing a safe place to fly your plane can work wonders as far as crash prevention. If you find an open space free of external objects, you will have a greater likelihood of successful flight. Encounters with other objects are common forms of crashes. Even grazing a tree or branch can cause a plane to plummet to the ground. As a beginner, be sure you have a clear pathway to avoid such tragedy. It is also advisable to be the only plane in flight. Otherwise, it is easy for two planes to collide into each other. The results include an unmistakable loud noise followed by broken pieces shattered across the ground. While the crash itself is astonishing to witness, it is something completely avoidable. Only experienced pilots should fly in an area with multiple planes, and even they have been known to crash!

.

Always remember that flying a remote control airplane is supposed to be fun! You will encounter hang-ups, even the most seasoned model aircraft enthusiast does. With that said, crashes are part of this life. If and when this happens to you, don’t get too upset. Remember that it is something that comes along with the hobby. Try to smile, learn something from it, and move on. We all learn from our mistakes and any crash you experience will make you a better pilot in the future.
